Zero Density Releases High-Precision Tracking Platform for Virtual Production

Track Cameras With Six Milliseconds of Latency; Track Multiple Actors Using AI

August 28, 2023—Today, Zero Density releases its Traxis Tracking Platform, a turnkey solution that makes high-precision tracking in virtual production easier than ever. Featuring camera tracking, talent tracking, and tracking control solutions, the Traxis Platform enables creatives to tell immersive stories with photoreal virtual graphics—all while eliminating traditional barriers like long calibration times, distracting markers, and expensive latency errors.

With an accuracy of up to 0.2 mm and ultra-low latency of just six milliseconds, the Traxis Camera Tracking system offers exceptional precision. On a virtual production, this ensures continuous calibration and seamless real-time results, so every camera move on set is reflected in the virtual world without delay. Virtual graphics can then be broadcast live without breaking the audience’s immersion.

The Traxis platform includes an AI-powered system for talent tracking that can identify multiple actors within a 3D environment at once. Talent Tracking uses AI to extract the actor’s 3D location from the image in real time, then sends the data to a Reality Engine to create accurate reflections, refractions, and virtual shadows of the actor inside the 3D space. The technology is completely markerless, streamlining setup and maintenance, and means actors no longer need to be distracted by wearables or beacons that make it harder to perform.

At the heart of the Traxis platform is the Traxis Hub, a comprehensive tool that manages tracking and lens calibration data. Compatible with all industry-standard tracking protocols, the hub combines all available tracking and lens data into a centralized interface, significantly reducing setup time. The hub has a library of the most commonly used broadcast lenses, enabling quick and easy calibration.

“Traxis isn’t simply a tracking platform. It’s a meticulously crafted solution aimed at enhancing workflows, increasing tracking quality, and minimizing ownership costs,” says Amir Hochfeld, Chief Product Officer at Zero Density. “With its unmatched support, pinpoint accuracy, and streamlined design, it stands out as the go-to solution for high-demand environments.”

Radio.Cloud: Pioneering the Next Era of Radio Broadcasting

If you plan to visit IBC 2023, stop by between the 15th and 18th of September.

Stand 8.D77: The future of Radio is here and it’s called Radio.Cloud
Your smarter Playout and Networking solution.

The journey of radio broadcasting from its nascent FM days to the current digital age is phenomenal. As digital innovations sweep the industry, broadcasters have unlocked the potential to reach listeners globally with unparalleled quality. Spearheading this digital renaissance is Radio.Cloud – a cutting-edge platform designed for cloud-oriented radio content and networking.

The digital broadcasting realm has been set ablaze by Radio.Cloud. By offering a robust cloud solution, this avant-garde platform starkly contrasts conventional local playout systems. What it brings to the table is scalability and flexibility that’s been unheard of until now. Broadcasters can effortlessly retrieve their content from any corner of the world on any device, provided they’re connected to the web.

Radio.Cloud exceptional prowess lies in its innate ability to weave local components like regional content, jingles, and transitions seamlessly into the main broadcast. It empowers broadcasters to mold their content according to their regional audience’s tastes while leveraging cloud tech’s superior benefits.

Another feather in its cap is its powerful failover protection mechanism. Using a silent PC, whether in the studio or at the transmission location, ensures that the content goes ON-AIR in a backup mode every 10 seconds. Thus, even in the face of internet disruptions, broadcasting remains uninterrupted.

In the fiercely competitive domain of radio, making a mark is imperative. And with Radio.Cloud, broadcasters have a winning edge. The platform is adept at catering to both FM and DAB+ needs and harmonizes seamlessly with AoIP broadcast interfaces and touch-enabled virtual consoles. This paves the way for simplified remote content management. Enhanced by VST plug-in capabilities, broadcasters can deliver an immersive audio experience for listeners.

But what truly sets Radio.Cloud Apart is its game-changing feature: remote virtual live broadcasts. With internet access, stations can now go live from anywhere – a boon especially for critical coverages like news and sports events. The robust failover protection ensures broadcasting continuity, come what may.

The buzzword in radio engineering circles has recently been about ‘Cloud’ and the transition to cloud-centric infrastructure. A vanguard group in Germany comprising innovators and developers manages a staggering 200+ radio stations entirely on cloud frameworks. With AI capabilities, Radio.Cloud brings forth dynamic, locally-driven content backed by AI’s precision and efficiency. Automated content scheduling keeps listeners hooked around the clock.

Having etched its name in countries like the US, Canada, and parts of Europe, Radio.Cloud is now making waves in Greece and Cyprus. It’s on a mission to phase out traditional broadcasting systems in favor of its revolutionary cloud paradigm. Collaborating with Radio.Cloud promises Greek and Cypriot stations a journey into broadcasting’s future.

For inquiries and demonstrations, contact Weformedia Europe at info(at)weformedia.eu – radio.Cloud official ambassador in Greece and Cyprus.

To wrap it up, Radio.Cloud isn’t just another platform; it’s the beacon lighting up the future of radio broadcasting. With its unmatched versatility in playout and networking, FM and DAB+ broadcasts are in for a transformative experience. From live remote broadcasts to unwavering broadcast continuity, Radio.Cloud ensures that the golden era of radio content delivery is right here, right now.

Greek Radio: Stuck in Time or Moving Forward

Having spent 30 years in the Media, Music publishing services, and Broadcast technology sectors as a businessman, I feel compelled to share my insights on a topic dear to me – the evolving radio landscape in Greece.

Is Greek radio genuinely advancing? Or are we trapped in a cyclical pattern dominated by dated, ego-driven strategies? With increasing concern, I’ve noticed that past approaches are consistently resurrected and tested not just on music but across the board. When these methods show even a hint of success, they are firmly embraced, giving rise to what appears to be a relentless cycle.

Our aging infrastructure adds to the complexity; numerous studios and RF sites have remained unchanged for a decade and a half. Such legacy systems naturally make technicians hesitant to introduce novel solutions – not necessarily due to unwillingness, but rather a lack of familiarity with modern technology. As a result, their suggestions often lean on older technologies they’re comfortable with, even if they’re no longer cutting-edge.

However, the hurdles Greek radio faces aren’t solely rooted in equipment. A prominent issue is the dearth of comprehensive planning, visionary strategy, and, most importantly, competent staff. It’s troubling to see chief Program directors, given the helm’s responsibility, battling to garner the funds required to rejuvenate the radio sector. The result? A tangible stagnation. Yet, with dedicated investments in continuous education and timely updates, Greek radio holds the promise of resurgence, moving beyond its repetitive history.

The time is now for a seismic shift in Greek radio’s trajectory. We must prioritize recruiting individuals imbued with passion and possessing a forward-thinking vision. There is an urgent call for leaders willing to invigorate their teams, challenge established paradigms, and champion trailblazing initiatives. Is the idea of reimagining Greek radio both utopian and romantic? Perhaps. But remember, at its heart, radio is about passion and soul. So, let’s not shy away from redefining our perspectives. Cheers to new beginnings!

Rising Stars in Filmmaking: Zolar Vega 60C and 80C Lights vs. Arri

The world of filmmaking is always on the lookout for cutting-edge equipment that can enhance the production value of projects, and lighting equipment plays an indispensable role in this domain. As the industry evolves, new players and products emerge, sometimes challenging the dominance of well-established brands. The Zolar Vega 60C and 80C lights are perfect examples of this phenomenon, often called part of the “Arri Killer Lineup.” Let’s delve deeper into the features and specifications of these lights and discover what makes them so sought-after in the filmmaking world.

Zolar Vega 60C and 80C: A Brief Overview

The Zolar Vega 60C and 80C are celebrated for their remarkable light quality, versatility, and design features tailored to modern filmmakers’ dynamic needs. Their growing popularity in the industry has earned them the reputation of being strong contenders against industry giants like Arri.

Key Features:

Adjustable Color Temperature: One of the most commendable features of the Zolar Vega lineup is its adjustable color temperature. This allows filmmakers to tweak the ambiance according to the mood and theme of the scene without the need for additional equipment or filters.

High CRI (Color Rendering Index): A high CRI ensures that the light source accurately reproduces the colors of various objects. The 60C and 80C models boast a high CRI, ensuring that the colors captured on camera are true to their real-life appearance. This is especially crucial for filmmakers who prioritize color accuracy and fidelity.

Durable Design: In the fast-paced environment of film sets, equipment’s durability is paramount. The Zolar Vega lights are constructed with high-quality materials, making them robust and long-lasting. Their design ensures they can withstand the inevitable bumps and knocks on set.

Why the ‘Arri Killer’ Label?

“Arri Killer” does not merely represent competition against the brand Arri. It symbolizes a changing trend in the filmmaking industry, where newer brands and models are challenging the status quo, offering similar or even better features at competitive prices.

Zolar Vega’s 60C and 80C have carved out a niche by providing high-quality output comparable to Arri’s offerings. Moreover, the flexibility and versatility they bring to the table and their affordability make them an attractive option for filmmakers across the spectrum, from indie producers to big studio productions.

Conclusion

While it’s essential to acknowledge the monumental legacy and quality that Arri has provided to the filmmaking world, it’s equally important to recognize the rising stars. The Zolar Vega 60C and 80C lights have undoubtedly made their mark and are setting new standards in lighting technology. Whether they are genuinely ‘Arri Killers’ or not is subjective, but there’s no denying their remarkable prowess and the value they add to any production.

“Blackmagic Design’s Role in the Creation of the Documentary ‘Common Ground'”

The Revolution in Digital Filmmaking

In a significant technological leap for the film industry, Blackmagic Design recently announced its pivotal role in producing the full-length documentary “Common Ground.” The documentary was exclusively shot using Blackmagic Design digital film cameras and was further refined using DaVinci Resolve Studio for editing, grading, visual effects (VFX), and audio post-production. The entire process was hosted on Blackmagic Cloud, marking a new chapter in film post-production.

The Legacy of “Kiss the Ground” Continues

“Common Ground” is a sequel to the acclaimed “Kiss the Ground.” Continuing the narrative, it highlights the ancient yet innovative approach of “regenerative agriculture.” This method has demonstrated potential in sustainable farming and climate change mitigation, water conservation, and global food supply stabilization. With filmmakers Josh and Rebecca Tickell at the helm, the documentary was recognized and celebrated at the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival, clinching the Human Nature Award. The film’s voice is strengthened by the narration provided by notable figures like Laura Dern, Jason Momoa, Rosario Dawson, Woody Harrelson, Ian Somerhalder, and Donald Glover.

Choosing Blackmagic Design

During “Kiss the Ground’s” production, the Tickells were introduced to Blackmagic Design cameras. Impressed by its adaptability and resilience, Josh Tickell stated, “We felt like the Blackmagic Design workflow was the answer.” Their toolkit for “Common Ground” incorporated two Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro 12K digital film cameras and two Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6Ks. These instruments ensured high-quality interviews, effective fieldwork coverage, and even high-speed shots.

Hoping to give the documentary a cinematic touch, Josh emphasized their intent: “We wanted a bright sunny look, big, bold blues, greens, and nice skin tones.” The combination of Pictor zoom and prime lenses with Blackmagic cameras achieved this vision. Moreover, the decision to shoot in Blackmagic RAW with a constant bitrate of 12:1 ensured adaptability in post-production.

Seamless Post-Production Experience

Transitioning to DaVinci Resolve Studio, the Tickells found the process surprisingly smooth. “We pumped more than 300 hours of footage through Resolve using a 10 GB ecosystem, and we found that it was stronger in many ways than our previous NLE,” Josh revealed. Blackmagic Cloud played an instrumental role in streamlining post-production, offering an accessible platform for collaboration among artists.

One of the significant advantages of this system was its flexibility. After premiering at Tribeca, feedback from multiple screenings allowed the team to refine both the edit and the grade for different outputs, including the theatrical and streaming releases. Josh reiterated the advantages of the DaVinci Resolve system, highlighting its efficiency, especially in the world of documentaries.

SMPTE’s inception can be traced back to a small meeting in April 1916 at New York City’s Astor Hotel, which signaled the birth of an organization destined to revolutionize the film and television world. A mere three months later, the Society of Motion Picture Engineers (SMPE) held its first official gathering, cementing its role as a collaborative space for industry leaders1. The rest, as they say, is history.

In its early days, SMPTE pioneered in setting foundational standards for the industry. By July 1917, it had adopted specifications for 35-mm film and standardized a frame rate of 16 frames per second1. This might sound rudimentary to us now, but these groundbreaking developments facilitated consistency across the industry.

Transformative Achievements

Throughout its existence, SMPTE has been instrumental in introducing essential standards we now take for granted. From the iconic Color Bar, which many might recognize from vintage television sets to the establishment of Timecodes that synchronize video frames, and the ST 2110 for professional media over managed IP networks, SMPTE’s innovations have been nothing short of transformative2.

Its influence hasn’t just been limited to behind-the-camera technology. SMPTE also delved into visual effects, with industry legends like James Cameron and Douglas Trumbull being recognized by the organization for their work in advancing visual effects, motion capture, and stereoscopic 3D photography1.

A Legacy of Collaboration

But beyond the technologies and standards, SMPTE’s legacy lies in its spirit of collaboration and community. As a global professional association, it brings together engineers, technologists, and executives from the media and entertainment industry1. It’s more than just a standards organization; it’s a platform where professionals converge, share insights, and work towards the collective advancement of the industry.

Celebrating the Milestone

SMPTE has rolled out a celebratory discount for registrations at the highly anticipated 2023 Media Technology Summit to commemorate this special occasion. For those keen on attending, using the code “HappyBirthday” will shave $50 off the registration fee2. Considering SMPTE’s history of presenting groundbreaking content at its summits, this year’s event promises to be an unmissable occasion for industry enthusiasts.

To the Future and Beyond

As SMPTE rings its 107th year, its commitment to driving innovation remains undeterred. As technology evolves rapidly, we can be sure that SMPTE will be at the forefront, setting the standards for the next century and beyond.

So, here’s to SMPTE, a beacon of innovation and collaboration for 107 years and counting. Happy Birthday, SMPTE
